Create Your Master File

Create Your Master File

“Create Your Master File” is the first step of the Roadmap on the Veterans page on this website.

This file keeps you ready for any move you decide to make and ensures that you’re never caught off guard by the whims of employers. Don’t let it be a roadblock. It’s just the onramp. You’re not looking for perfection. That has prevented many people from achieving their goal of a purposeful and fulfilling career.

In a way, you’re a product on the market and your resume is your marketing document. Your Master File is the source document for any customized resume you’ll ever need.

I tell people their Master File could be 100 pages long; only the owner ever sees the whole thing. Almost every Veteran I’ve worked with, when I ask them to tell me about a time when they exceeded expectations, says that they only did their job. You all have exceeded expectations – again and again.

One Marine Corps Veteran said that she’d rather go back into combat than work on a resume. She finally dug into her 20+ years of records and patiently entered every positive thing anyone had ever said in an evaluation. She called me to say she had 96 pages. Then, she said, “I forgot how good I am!” Others have said things like, “I’d hire this person.”

That Veteran took the lesson she learned from taking a serious look at herself and started her own business. She hired herself. With the right marketing document, you can land the kind of career you deserve, and the country needs you to have. Don’t settle for less.

The “Roadmap” tells you how to create your Master File, step by step. It’s not a handout. It’s a handshake and a heartfelt “Thank you!”
